A Note from our CEODear WIN Family, Welcome to the inaugural edition of WIN Family, our new electronic newsletter. We are excited about this improved way of communicating with the many friends and supporters of our organization. During the next year we anticipate four new editions focusing on client profiles and the latest news at WIN. Tonight, almost 34,000 people will sleep in beds in the New York City shelter system. Eighty percent of these will be women with their children - over 14,000 children. These families have many complicated and unmet needs which must be addressed before they can find a new home. These problems range from lack of jobs and education, to family violence, to substance abuse and mental illness. Women In Need is proud of providing housing, help and hope to homeless families for the past 25 years. While families stay in a WIN facility, they are able to access a variety of services to help them make the transition to independent living. Services such as on-site child care and after-school programs enable parents to access the help they need to regain their independence. Specialized counseling and referrals are available to those clients whose needs cannot be met by more traditional resources. Above all, the dedication and professionalism of WIN’s more than 300 staff members ensures that all clients are given a comprehensive range of assistance so that they can reclaim their lives and return to their communities. I hope you enjoy this issue of WIN Family. Sincerely, WIN's Annual Dinner GalaCharla Lawhon, managing editor of In Style magazine was honored at this year’s annual
dinner. Held on April 9th at the Pierre Hotel , the event was a huge success, raising upwards of $1.4 million. WIN GraduatesClients in WIN’s two substance abuse treatment programs who achieved their goal of sobriety and
wellness, marked this milestone by a graduation ceremony at St. John’s Church. WIN at 25WIN celebrates 25 years of services to homeless and disadvantaged families. Happy Mother's Day!This year, Mother's Day is Sunday, May 11. Please consider donating to WIN in lieu of a gift and we will send a personalized card/gift, which was created by a child in our shelters, to your loved one. Look for our mailing or order online! |
WIN PortraitIn celebration of WIN’s 25th anniversary and as a way to familiarize our new e-readers with the WIN Family, we could think of no better choice than to feature former client Rosanne Valeri in our first client profile.
In 1983, Rosanne fled an abusive relationship, taking her young daughter. They were one of the first
families to enter a WIN shelter and their lives changed dramatically as a result. Homelessness
