Homes for the Holidays
Women In Need recently completed its Homes for the Holidays campaign to benefit our children services programs. Notables from the world of film, television, music, fashion, art, business and sports, including Jennifer Lopez, Oscar de la Renta, Halle Berry, Sean Avery, Sean "Diddy" Combs and Lidia Bastianich, joined together to support WIN by designing and personally signing one-of-a-kind papier mache houses. These tiny treasures were auctioned online during November raising $25,000 through generous bidders around the world! The highest bid went to celebrated Cajun artist George Rodrigue’s (Blue Dog) house for $5,250.
The houses debuted in Saks Fifth Avenue’s flagship windows before being feted on November 9th with a private party, generously donated by the visually stunning Park Avenue Autumn restaurant. More than 350 guests including Josie Natori and Vera Wang, two of the designers, mingled and viewed the houses as bidding got underway. Nearly all 29 houses received an initial bid that night and a raffle was also held for a prize of a fanciful house made of chocolate designed by Richard Leach of Park Avenue Autumn.
We are excited that thousands of homeless and disadvantaged children will benefit immensely from this effort by receiving age-appropriate social and educational care.
