WIN Children Visit the NY Knicks!

An excited group of 40 young people, currently living in a WIN shelter, traveled to Madison Square Garden to participate in the event of a lifetime where they would stand on the floor of the most famous arena in the world, meet professional basketball players from our New York Knicks and the Portland Trailblazers and give them "high-fives" minutes before the game began.

For an overwhelming majority of the group, this was their first time in Madison Square Garden and it marked the first professional basketball game they ever attended. Emotions ran high as the children were in awe of every thing happening around them. Lucy Yang, of WABC-TV, spent a great deal of time with our enthusiastic group and interviewed two incredibly excited young men, for television, asking their opinion about the evening's event.

All of the children could not believe how incredibly tall the players were. Stepping onto the court, as the players practiced, was a moment they will remember for quite some time to come. While on the floor, the children noticed there were several celebrities in attendance watching and waving to them. These celebrities included Celine Dion, Spike Lee, Rihanna, Justin Bieber and Chris Rock. The children felt so special and talked about this moment all the way home!

Making the evening even more special The Knicks beat the Trailblazers that night as our children cheered, danced and clapped feverishly in support of their hometown team.
