Gingerbread Houses and More!
Seventeen children from WIN's Liberty and Junius Complex made beautiful and delectable gingerbread houses (actually made with graham crackers), hand puppets, holiday wreaths, picture frames and holiday turkeys (made out of Crayola modeling clay) at an event hosted by Free Arts NYC. The event was held the Saturday before Thanksgiving in a high school on the lower Eastside of Manhattan. Each child was paired with a buddy to help them with their projects.
After all of their hard work, the children enjoyed a delicious pizza lunch followed by a hilarious puppet show.
At the end of the day, the children said their good-byes to their volunteer buddies and gingerly carried their tiny creations on trays to an awaiting bus. It was a very interesting ride home as they carefully guarded their houses against every bump in the road and they arrived back at the Complex having suffered only one minor casualty to the houses! We thank Free Arts NYC and all of the volunteers for a very special and fun-filled event.
