Help the NYC Department of Homeless Services (DHS) count the unsheltered homeless population during the Homeless Outreach Population Estimate (HOPE) Survey. This year’s survey takes place on Monday, January 30th, 2012, from 10:30 PM – 4:00 AM, and is critical to helping DHS and partner agencies like WIN overcome homelessness. Registration and additional information about the event is available on the HOPE 2012 website. And, when registering, be sure to select “Women In Need” under the question, “Are you associated with a member of the NYC Continuum of Care?” so we receive credit for your participation. Thanks in advance for helping homeless New Yorkers!

On February 17th, WIN is holding an evening of converstaion with Tina Brown, the Editor in Chief of The Daily Beast, Alexandra Penney, Author of The Bag Lady Papers and Larry Kramer, Founder of MarketWatch, Inc. I had a chance to speak with Alexandra about her new book and involvement with the event.
“Women need meaningful work and relationships and a nurturing environment,” Alexandra commented, “We need to help those who don’t so they can realize their full potential.” A former editor at Self magazine, she was always interested in helping women and is delighted to be a part of this event.
Even though she lost all of her life savings in the Madoff Scheme, she never actually had to live her biggest fear of becoming a ‘bag lady.” However, her book, The Bag Lady Papers is launching the day before and everyone who attends will receive a signed copy.

The New York City Department of Homeless Services (DHS) conducts an annual street outreach to survey the NYC homeless population. DHS is recruiting 3,000 volunteers to conduct the survey on January 25, 2010.
We would like to encourage everyone to participate in this rewarding and worthwhile event. I participated in a previous survey and found it to be a sobering and rewarding experience.

Our “Homes for the Holidays” auction that has been taking place on CharityBuzz.com ended last night and was a complete success! Thanks to all who participated, we raised a total of $24,725!
The money will help provide homeless families in New York City hope, support and shelter. We appreciate every one’s support and want to especially thank all of the designers of the mini-houses for taking the time to help our organization.
To see a list of the houses and how much they were auctioned off for, visit CharityBuzz.com. George Rodrigue’s was the highest seller at $5,250! Happy Holidays!
